- Yes I think that is the answer.
- In Doom, the map screen is not overlaid onto the actual game screen.
- Life still goes on and monsters can appear and kill you ...

- Actually how about when you're playing in a screen reduced 320x200 rez ... or whatever,
- that the map will jump back to the fullscreen in 320x200 .... maybe it already does that
- now ...
